When Les Williams, Director of Operations for TLC Pro Roofing discovered Conklin Roofing Systems, he quickly realized he had found a roof coating product he had to share.
What is Conklin roof coating? It is a white, acrylic elastomeric, or rubber-like, coating applied to a roof. The coating is designed to retard the aging process and significantly extend roof life. It’s also helpful for preventive maintenance purposes. Roof coatings are commonly used to prevent hardening of the vital asphalt waterproofing component of built-up roofing systems by reducing heat exposure.
Conklin’s white roofs, also known as “cool roofs”, reflect the sun’s hot UV rays rather than absorbing them the way black roofs do. This keeps buildings cooler, dramatically reducing cooling costs. In fact, since Conklin introduced their white acrylic roofs over 30 years ago, many customers have enjoyed a complete return on investment in just 7 years. Imagine roofing your building with a quality system that pays for itself in just a few years while protecting it for decades! Applied to a previously installed roof, coatings will extend performance life.
Of all the roof coating products on the market, Conklin is the one that delivers. Their roof coatings have been applied to over 2 billion square feet of roofing throughout the United States since 1977. Conklin Roofing Systems & roof coatings have been proven to be energy efficient in some very intense situations and under some very intense scrutiny.
In July 2010, Secretary of Energy Steven Chu issued a memorandum directing that all DoE sites install cool roofs like those manufactured by Conklin when it was cost effective, when a roof needed to be replaced or repaired. "These roofs ensure that we're gaining energy efficiency savings."
DoE has installed approximately 160 cool roofs, adding roofs when new buildings are being built or older roofs are being repaired. Those facilities have about 10% cool roofs, but they are ensuring that any new buildings or any buildings that need new roofs are going to have cool roofs installed.
"About 50% of the buildings at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory are cool roofs, which is a 27% increase from 2010," MacDonald said. "A number of our other laboratories have also redesigned their building specifications to include cool roofs, such as the National Energy Technology Laboratory in Pittsburgh and Morgantown, W.Va."
Imagine having the federal government fund part of the cost for your energy and budget efficient upgrade to a cool roof? It’s all possible with a Conklin Roofing System.
